Det er en fortælling om en sårbar, men også usædvanlig viljestærk kvinde med mange kampe, som hun alle måtte tage helt alene. Først efter 2. verdenskrig opnåede Inge Lehmann anerkendelse, og det skete i udlandet, mens hun først i 1968 blev gjort til æresdoktor ved Københavns Universitet.
